If you're thinking "okay, it's a goat in some old code, big deal", hear me out. This isn't just some random meme coin. Cuzco is part of OpenAI's history, one of the first playful, quirky moments tucked inside a company known for serious tech. And now he's got this whole new life in crypto, sparking interest like no one expected.
Imagine this: you're browsing through OpenAI's GitHub, and in a corner
of their ancient Box2d-py repo, you find a line of code that
just says:
w = Input(value="Cuzco the Goat", size=20)
Nobody at OpenAI put that there. Here's how it actually happened.
Around 2009 a game dev called Phil Hassey wrote a little Python GUI library called PGU. When he needed a name for the example, out of all the things he could've typed, he used his goat. Cuzco was Phil's real, one-horned (yeah, you read that right) pet goat, and the line right after it says "Marbles", who was the other goat.
Then PGU got bundled into the examples folder of pybox2d, a physics library. In May 2016, a week after OpenAI launched Gym, one of their engineers forked it to his personal account. Two years later, in August 2018, OpenAI forked his copy into the company org.
Nine years. Three copies. Nobody ever opened the file. The repo has four watchers.
So nobody chose to put Cuzco in OpenAI's GitHub. He drifted there, one fork at a time, and stayed.

find Box2d-py, open examples, then
pgu, then gui, and click input.py.

And he left his own name in the folder too. Open form.py in the same directory:

OpenAI archived the whole repo on 29 May 2026. It's read-only now, which means Cuzco is in there for good.

@philhassey · 13 years agoYeah, he was chased off a 30 ft cliff by a mean dog about 5 years ago. His horn was damaged and had to be amputated :( But he's a trooper and found that the loss of a horn made it easier for him to get through fences because his head was now smaller!
Fell off a cliff. Lost a horn. Worked out it was an upgrade.
